Spider-Who Part 132: Clone Hunter Spider-Man

This is an odd Spider-Man costume since it’s not really an official costume. It was just sort of thrown together in the moment, but then, so is the Bombastic Bag Man costume, and that’s almost always counted as an official alternate Spidey costume, so I’m counting this too. Also, this costume shows up in that Spider-Man Unlimited game, so I think I’m OK.

This one was from a time when Kaine, Peter Parker’s deranged clone, decided to commit murders in an effort to protect Mary Jane from harm. Kaine’s version of the Spider Sense is taken to near pre-cognitave levels, and he had had a vision of M.J. being hurt, so he took to the streets to kill any villain or crook he thought might be a threat to her and Peter.

This lead to police reports of the murders having Peter Parker’s finger prints on file for the murders since Kaine is his genetic clone. There was some bizarre mock trial where Kaine was Peter’s defense attorney and Carnage was the judge, but despite that Peter ended up in jail for real for the murders. Ben Reilly took his place in prison for a time so that Peter could track down Kaine and get him to turn himself in.

That’s where this costume comes into play. Since Peter was in a rush to hunt down his clone, he slaps together a mask and gloves from him black suit costume, Ben’s web shooters, and just puts on his street clothes for the rest. He manages to find Kaine, they fight, and Kaine only then reveals who he is to Peter, saying that he had done all of this to protect him. Peter demands he turn himself in to the authorities, but when Kaine refuses, Peter says he’ll simply reveal his secret identity to the public and go to jail. Kaine can’t have this, as he now idolizes Peter as perfection, and agrees to turn himself in.

To avoid confusion as to how another man can have the same finger prints, Kaine simply shows the judge how he can use his “Mark of Kaine” to burn a hand print onto the judge’s desk. Since this was how all the murder victims also died, with a burned hand print on their faces, the judge accepts this as irrefutable proof, and Kaine goes to jail instead of Peter.
