Spider-Who Part 171: Spider-Ma’am

Even Aunt May has been the spider hero in one reality. On Earth-3123 Aunt May is bitten by the radioactive spider and gains the powers of the spider totem. Not having any scientific background to invent web shooters and such, she creates her weapons of choice from dough, knitting needs and yarn. Don’t ask me how it all works out, but it apparently does.

When Peter sees the Amazing Spider-Ma’am in action, he’s actually so frightened of her, he faints. So for his sake, Aunt May keeps her true identity a secret from her family.

In Spider-Verse, the Inheritor Karn travels to Earth-3123 to kill who ever is the spider totem of that world, teleporting directly into the Parker home. Seeing that he is far more powerful than she, Aunt May decides to reveal herself in front of Uncle Ben and Peter, and surrender to Karn so that her family is not injured during a fight. Karn is humbled by this and promises to make her death swift and painless, but before he can kill her, a large group from the Spider-Army show up in time to save her. Once the group leaves with Karn in tow, Spider-Ma’am is left on her Earth with her stunned nephew and husband with a loss for words and some explaining to do.

Spider-Who Part 170: Spider-Ben

spider-benDuring Spider-Verse, the Spider-Army travels to Earth-3145, but find that it’s an irradiated world devoid of nearly all life save for some insects. Cities are destroyed and it almost looks as if it’s been through a war. They travel to where Ezekiel Sims’ hidden bunker would likely be, and find that it’s in the same place as on Earth-616. Inside they find that word’s spider totem alive and well, and it’s Uncle Ben!

It turns out that on Earth-3145, Uncle Ben took some time off of work to take Peter to see a presentation on radiation. While there Uncle Ben was bitten by the radioactive spider and gained super powers. Thrilled, Peter designed a costume and gadgets for his uncle to use and figured he could make easy money, but good ol’ Uncle Ben knows all about power and responsibility, so he became a hero right away.

Unfortunately, heroes attract villains, and when one of his enemies, the Emerald Elf (Green Goblin), discovered his secret identity, he blew up the Parker home with Peter and Aunt May inside. Uncle Ben quit being a hero from that day on. When Ezekiel Sims showed up and told Ben he should hole up in a bunker so as not to attract the Inheritors and Morlun, he accepted his offer and locked himself away.

While that word’s Spider-Man was hidden away, that world’s Otto Octavius set a scheme into motion to hold the world hostage with nuclear bombs that he would ruin the world with unless his demands were made. The world governments agreed to his terms, but Otto’s plan went wrong, and he was unable to stop his doomsday device, which utterly doomed Earth-3145. Everything and everyone died, all except for Uncle Ben in Ezekiel’s impenetrable bunker, where of course the Spider-Army find him years later.

When our Spider-Man, Earth-616 Peter Parker, tries to talk him into joining their cause, he can’t get him out of his depressed attitude of being an utter failure. Surprisingly, it’s the Superior Spider-Man who then convinces him to snap out of his self-defeatist ways, and he suits up and joins the group.

After Spider-Verse, Uncle Ben decides to live with May Parker Spider-Girl on her Earth to help her raise her little brother Benji, and also to help deal with the loss of her father Peter at the hands of the Inheritors. At least that way little Benji will get to grow up with an Uncle Ben.

Spider-Who Part 169: Spider-Prime

Hailing from Malibu Comics universe, Kevin Green came into his powers while he was still a little boy. He was experimented on by a strange doctor/mad scientist while he was just a baby, but nothing seemed to come of it until years later. One night while suffering through a strong fever (made ever the more unusual since Kevin never got sick, ever) he awoke to find his body was that of a fully grown massively muscled man. Before he could do anything, the adult body turned to a liquid/slime/ooze leaving his regular child body inside. He passed out from a lack of oxygen, but awoke in the morning to find the remains of the larger body around him.

It turns out Kevin’s body could secrete this protoplasm substance and then transform his body into that of a huge super hero. While in this form he decided to go by the name of Prime and fight villainy.

During a Malibu/Marvel Comics cross-over, Prime entered the Marvel universe, but found that when he went to transform from Kevin into Prime, instead of his regular body, he found himself in a body very similar to that of Spider-Man who was close by at the time. His powers likewise were more similar to Spider-Man’s than his usual power set, including now being able to use webbing.

In Spider-Verse, about half of Spider-Prime’s face can be made out at the edge of a page featuring dozens and dozens of spider heroes. Obviously this is due to not being able to get the proper rights to fully display him.

Spider-Who Part 168: Earth-Charnel Spider-Woman, Julia Carpenter

Another one of the heroes who fought against Charnel on Earth-9939 was Julia Carpenter. Similarly to Spider-Man (and even others like the former villain-turned-hero The Rhino) Julia has altered her costume to fit more in like with The Punisher’s style. Though to be honest, other than adding white gauntlets and several weapon belts, she hasn’t had to change as much of her costume as some of the others.

Spider-Who Part 167: Earth-Charnel Spider-Man

Earth-Charnel, aka Earth-9939, is a future version of reality where the super villain Charnel ended up taking over the world. He had so much power that it was deemed that the only way for the last heroes could defeat him was to go back in time and stop him before he gained so much power.

The Punisher is one of the few remaining heroes alive, despite not having any powers. Perhaps because of this, many of the other heroes dress similar to him, or have altered their costumes to look closer to his. Spider-Man, as you can see, is one such hero.

Punisher lead a special team, which included a Spider-Man, on a suicide mission to attack Charnel and steal a time travel device. While their mission was ultimately a success since they did manage to get the device, Peter Parker was one of the heroes who died in the process.

Spider-Who Part 166: Spider-Girl 2020

Spider-Girl of the year 2020 is a possible future set on Earth-8410. Her real name is May Parker, and she is the daughter of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson. In her reality Peter eventually died but his secret identity remained intact. She has venom blasts similar to other Spider-Women, but it is unclear if they are natural abilities or caused by bracelets she wears.

Spider-Who Part 164: Amazonian Spider-Woman, Mary Jane Watson

On Earth-92124 Amazonia defeated and took over the world at some point, which made women the dominant gender on the planet. It didn’t stop there though, apparently the Amazonian race was also intent on eliminating the male of the species almost entirely.

Anyways, that means all the superheros on this world are now women. Mary Jane Watson is Spider-Woman in this reality, and  a member of the Avengers along with Laura Kinney aka Wolverine (we know her as X-23), Susan Storm aka Ms. Fantastic, and an Emma Frost who apparently possessed the Phoenix Force. Spider-Woman was part of the raid which took over the last renegade men who were part of a guerrilla attack group known as The Y-Men.

Spider-Who Part 163: Mechanical Harness Spider-Man, Peter Parker

Yesterday we met criminal Flash Thompson who got spider powers and became The Spider. Well in that same world, Peter Parker created a mechanical/robotic spider limb system, not completely unlike Doctor Octopus’ arms, so that he could put an end to The Spider’s crime spree. He called himself Spider-Man and fought The Spider.

Not much else to say. I almost didn’t include this version of Peter Parker until I read that he does indeed go by code name “Spider-Man” so even though he is fighting a guy in the Spider-Man costume, he is certainly still a Spider-Man, so here he is.

Spider-Who Part 162: The Spider, Flash Thompson

Right off the bat I want to mention that the full costume for The Spider has a mask. In fact the full costume looks no different than the standard Spider-Man costume you’re used to seeing, except the man behind the mask is Flash Thompson. Just wanted to make it clear that he didn’t go mask-less, as the above picture might make you think.

So basically, on Earth-958, Flash was the one that got bitten by the radioactive spider, instead of Peter Parker. However, unlike on Earth-78127 where Flash became the hero Captain Spider, in this reality Flash decided to turn to crime, using his new spider super powers to get away with robberies.
